Living in Roxbury

Roxbury was founded in 1630, joined Boston in 1868, and has long been the heart of Black Boston's culture and history. Nubian Square is its hub, with restaurants, shops and community institutions, and Malcolm X lived here as a young man, at his sister Ella's house on Dale Street. Fort Hill and Highland Park hold some of the city's most striking Victorian streets.

Franklin Park, the largest park in the Emerald Necklace, sits along Roxbury's southern edge, and the Southwest Corridor Park runs along the Orange Line with a path for walking and biking. The Orange Line stops at Roxbury Crossing and Jackson Square, and the Silver Line runs from Nubian Square to downtown.

Roxbury's housing mixes Victorian single families, triple-deckers and newer condo buildings. From 2015 to 2025, about 60% of residential sales were condos, 26% multi-families and 13% single families.
