Living in Watertown

Watertown sits on the Charles River just west of Cambridge, with Watertown Square as its traditional center and Arsenal Yards, on the grounds of the old Watertown Arsenal, as its newest. It is home to one of the country's largest Armenian-American communities, whose bakeries and markets line Mount Auburn Street, and to the Armenian Museum of America and Perkins School for the Blind.

The Charles River Reservation gives Watertown miles of riverside paths, and Mount Auburn Cemetery sits on its eastern edge. There is no subway, but frequent buses run along Mount Auburn Street and Belmont Street to Harvard Square, and the Mass Pike and Route 20 are close.

Watertown's housing leans toward two-family homes and condos, with single families on quieter side streets. From 2015 to 2025, about 60% of residential sales were condos, 24% single families and 16% multi-families.
