Neighborhood guide

Living in Arlington

Arlington is a town of neighborhoods strung along Massachusetts Avenue, from East Arlington near the Cambridge line through Arlington Center to the Heights. Each has its own small business district, and the Capitol Theatre and the Regent Theatre anchor its evenings. The town also claims Uncle Sam: Samuel Wilson was born here in 1766, when it was still called Menotomy.

The Minuteman Bikeway runs the length of town, linking Alewife to Lexington and Bedford, and Spy Pond sits a short walk from Mass Ave. For commuters, the Red Line at Alewife is just over the line, with buses along Mass Ave and quick access to Route 2.

Arlington's housing is a mix of colonials, Victorians and two-family homes, many split into condos. From 2015 to 2025, about 49% of residential sales were single families, 43% condos and 8% multi-families.
