Neighborhood guide

Living in Roslindale

Roslindale is built around its village square, where bakeries, cafes, restaurants circle Adams Park. The Saturday farmers market fills the square from June into November. Roslindale Village Main Street, founded in 1985, was one of the first urban Main Street programs in the country and helped bring the square back to life.

The Arnold Arboretum borders the neighborhood, and the top of Peters Hill offers one of the best views of the Boston skyline. Commuter rail stops right in the village, the Orange Line at Forest Hills is a short ride or bike away, and several bus routes run to the square.

Roslindale's housing is a mix of Victorian single families, two- and three-family homes, and condos carved from both. From 2015 to 2025, about 54% of residential sales were condos, 33% single families and 13% multi-families.

Claim to fame

Roslindale Village Main Street, founded in 1985, was one of the first urban Main Street programs in the country.

Outdoor space
Arnold Arboretum and Peters Hill

Hard to beat one of greatest city parks in America.   The views from Peter's Hill are breathtaking too.

Landmark spot
Adams Park

Festivals, events, farmer's market, beer gardens, etc.   It's a lovely centerpiece to the village area.

Local institution
Tony’s Market

What can you say other than "the best"!   We don't make a move on the grill without Tony's involvement.   Their prepared foods, like their legendary lasagna, are not to be missed.

Signature event
Roslindale Village Farmers Market

It's way more than a farmers market and it's the longest running in Boston:  performances, lots of local businesses and pop ups you may not find elsewhere.

Cuppa Joe
Fornax Bread Company

Another area staple but now under newer ownership.  Same delicious boules and batards, but also coffee, sandwiches and some other delectables.

Ice cream
Sweetie’s

So many unique and interesting flavors (it's a soft-serve/frozen yogurt selection) and perfectly located for a stroll into the Village.

Date night
753 South

Consistently great food.  Now THE spot to be since Delfino closed.  Friendly service and a hidden gem of a patio.

Fancy a drink
Knoll Street Tavern

New owners, same old space, but they added sunlight.  The food is excellent and the bar pizza is as good as any bar pizza you'll find on the South Shore.

Live music
Square Root Caffe

Definitely one the livelier local music venues in the greater area and their ownership genuinely cares about the music AND the musicians.  Music, poetry, film, games.  Something nightly.

Family grub
Pleasant Cafe

Classic.  Their pizza is just...just perfect.   Many movies have been shot inside.  And while the decor and interior, which haven't been touched in decades, are amazing, the pizza is the draw for the locals.

Hidden gem
Substation

.

Quirky local business
Baystate Model Train Museum

This place is otherworldly.  They open their doors a few times per year, but the lines are long so get there early.
