Jamaica Plain—affectionately known as JP—is one of Boston’s most eclectic and beloved neighborhoods. Once a streetcar suburb, it’s now a thriving community where artists, families, and longtime residents mingle at farmers markets, coffee shops, and music venues. Centre Street anchors the neighborhood with locally owned boutiques, eateries, and the iconic JP Licks ice cream shop.

Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to Jamaica Pond and the Arnold Arboretum—two jewels of the Emerald Necklace—offering trails, water views, and space to breathe within the city. Architecturally, JP showcases everything from Victorian single-families and classic triple-deckers to newly converted condos and modern townhomes. Transit access is strong via the Orange Line, commuter rail, and several major bus routes, making downtown commutes easy.

Culturally, JP embraces diversity and creativity. From the annual Wake Up the Earth Festival to neighborhood art walks and vibrant dining spots like Brassica Kitchen, Ten Tables, and The Haven, JP exudes character and community pride. It’s a place where green space, good food, and good neighbors define daily life.

In JP the Real Estate inventory tends to be as diverse as its demographics.    Between 2015 and 2025, roughly 14% of the residential properties sold were single family homes and nearly 80% were condos.   JP condo values & its average price per square foot tends be close to the Boston's overall medians.

Here's a quick list of some of the BHT recommended go-to spots if you're in the area:

  • Life Alive - Organic and undeniably tasty bowls, wraps, soups, and smoothies, Life Alive is a personal team favorite.
  • Brendan Behan Pub - This is where the locals gather, in front, inside, and out back. A JP institution since the late 80s. Grab a late night bite from Food Wall across the street, and bring it over why don’t you?
  • Tres Gatos - Now a staple on the block, Tres Gatos is a Spanish themed bistro style restaurant with a record/book store in the back. The folks who own and manage this spot are some of our favorite people, and they maintain Tres Gatos as a community-oriented establishment with frequent benefits in support of meaningful local causes.
  • The Galway House - If you’re a food snob, it’s best to stay away from the Galway. But if you like no-frills food that is consistently excellent with whipfast service at incredibly reasonable prices, then the Galway is the place for you. Also, their onion rings and steak entrees are in the conversation for the Best in Boston (easily).
  • Tonino - Classic Italian. If there was a prize for JP’s best all around menu, it would have to go to Tonino. Make a reservation now, because getting in to Tonino isn’t easy!
  • Chilacates - Authentic Mexican street food. There are two locations, including the original spot on Amory.  Deeelish.
  • City Feed & Supply - Two locations in JP. The original “Little” City Feed on Boylston Street near Green Street Station and the larger, more well iconic location.   Locally owned, locally sourced (when/where possible) foods and groceries. They have a yummy sandwich menu (farmer’s lunch, anyone?) and one helluva breakfast sandwich.
  • Blue Nile - Lovely Ethiopian classics in a warm and friendly environment.
  • For Pizza we can’t pick just one: Same Old Place, Mario’s, There are too many to list!
