A Little About Allston

The thing you should know about Allston is that its very unique when you’re comparing all the variety of neighborhoods in Boston. All at once it’s industrial, commercial, ‘neighorhoody’, academic, raucous, and bubbling with life on every sidewalk. There are some of Boston’s newest and most modern developments interspersed between blocks of classic brick row houses, triple deckers, and warehouse style structures. And there are restaurants, shops, bars, pubs, and entertainment venues everywhere! It’s central to BU, BC, MIT, Brookline, Watertown, and Cambridge’s Harvard/Riverside areas. It’s got a green line train running through too. Kind of an everything, everywhere, all at once kind of vibe in Allston!

Boston Home Team Nearby Favorites*

Punjab Palace - 25 years and going. Award winning. Consistently delish.

Asia Wok - Classic. No notes.

The Mountain House - Upscale hotspot with fiery flavors and infinitely instagram-able dishes.

Spring Shabu Shabu - What’s not to love about eating around a hot pot? Another area staple.

Carlo's Cucina Italiana - A tiny Italian restaurant that gets big love from the locals. Excellent Italian cuisine!

SwissBaker - Authentic pastries, stellar ham and cheese croissants & pretzel rolls, and modern European charm.

Ariani - Serving rich afghan flavors and delivering a warm welcome since 1999.

Sloane’s - Excellent New American eats with veg-friendly options. As the chef herself says, “unapologetically delicious comfort food”. We’re not sorry.

Lulu's Allston - It’s a pub with a patio, a fun,-laid back vibe, craft-beer and good eats.

Birds of Paradise Cocktail Bar - This place is a vibe. And kind of hidden away on the outskirts. Kind of country fable meets mid-century modern? It’s open to your interpretation.

Owls Nest Beer Garden - From the good people at Night Shift Brewery serving some of the Boston’s area’s best locally made brew.

Aeronaut Beer Garden - Another local beer fave served in a delightful, urban garden setting.

Model Cafe/Silhouette Lounge - If you want to know what Allston was like 30, 40, or even 50 years ago, step in to either of these two local watering holes and experience the evergreen vibe of where hipsters, rockers, and bikers perennially clinked their suds bottles to the highs and lows!

Twin Donuts. If you’ve seen the old Errol Morris directed Miller High Life commercials, you’ve seen Twin Donut. It’s a local landmark. And the donuts are pretty good too. Dunk on your own time. (Worth noting that on the corner of Market and N. Beacon in lower Allston is one of the very first Dunkin Donuts locations ever!)

Mahoney’s - It’s more than a garden center. Be careful when you walk by, there’s a lot here that will catch your eye and pull inside! You’ve been warned.

* Editor’s note: Allston has what seems like a million little spots all over! We admit we haven’t tried them all. If you come across this list and feel we’re egregiously missing something big, don’t hesitate to let us know.
