Portland, Maine

Of course, during the warmer months, you can enjoy the beach, but even when it’s not so warm out, the views of the ocean are quite breathtaking.

Throughout the city of Portland, you will find plenty of distilleries, breweries, and wineries to enjoy, as well. For a weekend getaway, this one should be high on your list if you live in Boston and you can even take the train to get there.

Newport, Rhode Island

Heading in the other direction, Newport offers a beautiful location about 80 miles from Boston. Leave on Friday evening and enjoy the night, all of Saturday and most of Sunday before arriving back in Boston on Sunday night. A quick weekend getaway to Newport offers one of the most romantic destinations on this list.

The beautiful Newport mansions are certainly something to see, along with the 3.5-mile Cliff Walt. You will also want to consider spending some time at the Museum of Yachting or the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The beautiful classic wooden boats found at Fort Adams State Park are another great attraction to enjoy.

Provincetown, Massachusetts

You don’t even have to leave the state to enjoy an incredible getaway from Boston. Provincetown is found just about 1.5 hours from Boston and you get to enjoy the Boston Harbor Cruises ferry to get there. It’s part of the larger Cap and offers plenty of great attractions.

Provincetown provides a place you can go and you won’t need a car. You can enjoy getting there by ferry and getting around on foot once you’re there. The nightlife is quite amazing here and you can enjoy the beach during the warmer months. If you’re looking to stay close to Boston, but get away for the weekend, this may be the perfect choice.

Burlington, Vermont

Designed to be similar to Boulder, Colorado, when you arrive in Burlington, you may feel like you’ve traveled somewhere else completely. The outdoors are alive and well in Burlington with plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. You can climb Mt. Mansfield, bike the Island Line Trail or even kayak on Lake Champlain. If you love outdoor adventure, this is the perfect weekend getaway.

Berkshires, Massachusetts

The Berkshire Mountains are incredible and heading to Berkshires during the fall may be the best weekend getaway on this list. You can enjoy incredible foliate in the fall and plenty of natural beauty all throughout the year.

The region is found in the Western section of Massachusetts and it’s known as the place where Normal Rockwell spent most of his time. He lived in Stockbridge for over 25 years and you can even enjoy a museum here with more than 1,000 of his original paintings and drawings.

You can also enjoy touring the hold home of Herman Melville and the Arrowhead farm, which is found in the area. This is a pretty affordable weekend getaway, as well with very affordable hotels found all throughout the area. You won’t have to break the bank to stay in Berkshires and enjoy the Western section of Massachusetts.
